ISSUES
PURSUE Development
Are we attractive to prospective businesses looking to relocate or grow their business here?
-
★Economic development will be critical to increasing our commercial tax base. We must wisely invest our economic development tax revenues to attract strong companies that offer high quality jobs and create commercial property value. We should develop quality retail in the proper locations to enhance our sales tax revenue. With respect to transportation, ease of access into and out of our community will be critical to attracting this economic development. In these ways, we can work to keep residential property taxes down.
Are we meeting the cultural and recreational expectations of our citizens?
-
★Quality of life development. McKinney is a unique city with wonderful diversity: vibrant downtown, historical neighborhoods boasting distinctive charm and quality, newer neighborhoods with many amenities. This is all complimented by a tremendous array of parks, trails and recreation facilities. Building upon what has been done in the past is critical to the future of McKinney.
PLAN Strategically
Have we identified community priorities based upon our values?
-
★We should have a short and a long term plan based upon our values and vision for our city and prioritize needs before we invest your dollars.
Can we achieve savings by partnering with others?
-
★We should look for strategic partnerships with neighboring cities, our school districts and county government to leverage combined resources to benefit our citizens.
PROMOTE Efficiencies in City Operations
Are we operationally efficient?
-
★We must search every area of the city’s operation to look for opportunities for efficiency and new ways to accomplish our objectives with fewer resources.
Are we easy to do business with?
-
★We should create an environment where businesses can locate, build and profitably grow their companies without facing undue governmental red tape and bureaucracy.
PRESS for Open and Inclusive Government
Are we open to new ideas and people?
-
★As McKinney transitions, it is imperative to have new voices and experience at the table.
Do our taxpayers have access to information and discussions at City Hall?
-
★Transparency and communication will be key to strong representation of all the citizens’ needs.
